Information found in family Bible:

This Sunday morning, I, Shirley G. Hosman, () found the
following in an old, old Bible which has been in my family for a long
time. It has been packed away in the bottom of a box with my Mother’s
things.
My sons and I have within the last few years become interested in
Geneology and when carefully leafing through this very fragile book, I
found the following:

1) a “very yellowed” newspaper article dated October 27, 1885 concerning
the death of one Oliver Neill age 19. The name of the newspaper is not
on the clipping.

2) a second “very yellowed” newspaper article from the Colorado City
News concerning the funeral of a Mrs. Pearl Van Dusen Brooks.

3) A third “very yellowed” newspaper article concerning the wedding of
Miss Ethel Van Dusen and Anthony E. Bratt of Kiantone held in the
Pilgrim Memorial Congregational Church.

4) a penned listing of members of the Van Dusen family going back to
1844.
At the top of the list is a notation that Moher, I suspect that the
write meant Mother died April 2, 1891 at Randolph, New York.

Following on down the page is the following information:

and 5 days)

I remember that as a child, during the ‘30’s my Mother, (Irene Lawyer
Guenther), my Grandmother Margaret Anna (Dallas) Lawyer and I (Shirley
Lawyer Guenther Hosman) would visit a cousin of my Grandmothers by the
name of Maggie Van Dusen in Kansas City I can not tell you what her
maiden name was. All I ever heard was we were going to visit Maggie
Van.
There are two copies of articles from the Kansas City Star or Kansas
City Times concerning the death of James H. Van Dusen, at the age of
61. He was the proprietor of a grocery store, at 3909 East 27th St.,
Kansas City, Missouri. It notes that he was a member of Southgate Lodge,
Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Funeral services were held at the
home at 2703 Mersington, Kansas City, Missouri on Jan. 21. It does not
note the year. Internment followed at Forest Hills Cemetery in Kansas
City Missouri.

Is anyone, out there, looking for this information. I would be
interested in how I could tie it into the John Dallas family. John
Dallas and Triphena Seeley were born in Scotland and emigrated to the
States, settling at that time in New York.State. They had three
daughters, Margaret Anna, (born in 1865,) Louise, (born in about 1867)
and Mary born a couple of years later.
