An obituary:

MCKINNEY, JOHN E., brickmaker (guess he and James had something in
common....James probably met Sarah in this way) Sec. 33, P.O. Peoria,
was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in June, 1826, and is the
son of David and Abigail (Ensley) McKinney. His father was a native of
Ireland and his mother of Pennsylvania. He was raised at home until
fifteen years of age, when he came to Peoria, and has since resided
there. In 1844, he went to work in a brickyard and he has been in that
business for himself for over 20 years. He married April 8, 1847, in
Logan Township, Miss Eliza Stratton, a native of New York City, born
January 13,1827, by whom he has five children: Luther, Julia, Sarah
Jane, William and Lily Maud. He settled on his present location in
1859, owns 20 acres of land, partly used for manufacturing purposes, and
upon which also stand his residence and barns. He owns also two houses
and lots, corner Perry and Laville strets, in Hall's addition to Peoria.
