Subject: [ROOTS-L] IRISH IMMIGRANTS TO CANADIAN PROCESSING FACILITY
Date: Sat, 27 Jan 2001 14:53:38 -0800

I had made a posting on the St. Lawrence Co, NY rootsweb.com page re an
Ireland Immigrant Ship sunk/shipwrecked in the St. Lawrence River in the
1830s. One response reminded me there were hazzards before a ship went
aground in the St. Lawrence River and that many a ship was sunk by
icebergs in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. His ancestors were rescued from a
such a sinking in 1849. Searched cyndislist re shipwrecks with no
results. Below are sites that were given to me by Thomas
W. Perrin. What fantastic history about Grosse Ile, island port where
all immigrants were unboarded, processed, etc. Probably Americans would
refer to it as our Ellis Island. I believe Grosse Ile had many more
facilities than Ellis Island had. Really great - great history at all
sites listed below, including picture of yesterday and today.

My Carrolls may have come thru there, however, I don't know when they
came.-- Florence

Here's a couple of sites that may shed some light on your quest.....
