Dee, Try this site:
http://mapping.usgs.gov:8888/gnis/owa/gnisprod?f_name=Gibson+Creek&variant=N&
f_state=VA&f_cnty=&f_type=stream&pop1=&pop2=&elev1=&elev2=&cell=&tab=y
and to look up other sites using USGS maps, use this query site:
http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html
This is much easier and cheaper than trying to find geographic sites by
purchasing maps which you believe may contain such features. Also this is
far more accurate and complete than using such programs as Delorme which
leave out a lot of detail. Be aware, however, that many small streams do go
through name changes and current names may not reflect the old names given in
old deeds or other old genealogical records. Gaining such knowledge often
requires research at the local source and is often not found on-line. For
your Gibson Creek (a.k.a. Stewart Gibson Creek), it is located in Halifax
County, Virginia. Hope this helps.
