Normally they had to be in the US for two years, file for first papers,
wait three years, take oath. This is very general since there were
exceptions to the rule. Go to www.nara.gov/genealogy/natural.html or
www.cyndislist.com/immigrat.htm or you can do a google search with the
keyword of Naturalization.
