The following is the definition of tithing in the A to Zax - A Comprehensive
Dictionary for Genealogists & Historians by Barbara Jean Evans.

Tithing: (1) an administrative unit in England, including ten families or an
area consisting of a tenth of a hundred; (2) to pay a percentage of income to
help support a church.
