Subject: [ROOTS-L] Befuddled Genealogy
Date: Fri, 15 Feb 2002 06:11:25 -0800 (PST)

I have been a subscriber to ROOTS-L from its inception
and more and more I keep seeing these befuddling
genealogies being posted either in the Lists or in
other places in ROOTSWEB.
I see so many times folks will publish as the GOSPEL a
family tree with precise names, precise dates, and
precise places but not one shred of documentation or
evidence to document or give credence to the published
genealogy.
Just today I found a family who lived in VT and the
entire family had full dates and places of birth as
well as full dates of marriages and the dates of birth
for all the children but when I contacted the town
hall where these events were supposedly occurring the
town clerk says none of the births happened there,
none of the marriages took place there, and the
parents did not get married there.
Which dream did the poster get these facts from?
Now I can get off my soapbox...thanks for listening.
