The men in my family have been in the Masonic Lodge for six generations. It
is not a religion, it is a brotherhood. It is not a secret organization, it
is an organization with a secret.
My family were mainly Presbyterian with a spattering of Baptist and
Methodist. The discourse with the Catholics was over confession and the
"secret" of the lodge. It seems that during confession the "secret" was
disclosed, and that was against the teachings of the order.
The Eastern Star is an auxiliary for the women to which I belong, as did
three previous generations of family women.
It is not exclusively for Christians, and we do good works in the community
with service and charity. There is nothing in either order detrimental to
society.
