I second Margaret's vote for the NEHGS lending-library-by-mail. I use it a
lot for my northern lines, but coverage of southern states is sketchy.

For my southern lines, I use the Genealogical Center Library in Marietta,
GA. I've just begun my membership, but so far I'm pleased with it.
