In the 1700/1800's - in the far north of the USA..... and likely in other remote areas.....often there were not church buildings...only travelling priests....Jesuits most frequent....they would go from town to town, stay at a home where the family would pass word that the priest was there...that Mass would be said and sacraments administered....and the BIBLE was the official record for the family....and often served as the civil record.... If the priest's notation regarding the sacraments were not posted to the official book at the church he travelled from....perhaps across state....then the only note was that which was in the FAMILY BIBLE..... Family Bibles are of such import..... if the entire book is not kept, at least....page through and find the information pages...often in different parts of the book....for births deaths marriage baptism confirmation, etc etc etc.....

That would be most Protestant house holds, much more common for Protestants
to keep a Bible in the house, and not rely on the Big one at the Church.
