I, too have been watching this thread, and have copied parts of two replies
below. When I was first starting out over a year ago, I found a person on a
Rootsweb name list who looked like she had common ancesters with me, so I
emailed her. We did have, and she asked me for my family info. I emailed
her what I had up to the present, but some was not verified. I didn't know
the importance of it back them. A few weeks later, I checked on Rootsweb
again, and found my current family info on the net, along with a typo date
mistake. I emailed her the correct date, then, found another person who
had info on my family line! Emailed him, and his reply was the info I had
sent to first person, along with the mistake! After that I was very
cautious about how much info I give in the first or second contact. I
agree, part of the fun is meeting others and sharing, but we don't really
'meet' or know who or what the other person is like at first. Besides, I am
a private person, and don't like my family history made available for
everyone to view. Since then, I have met quite a few people who are
researching various family lines of mine and now have a running
correspondence with them. Joanne
