Subject: [ROOTS-L] Ft. Wayne -- A Suggestion
Date: Tue, 11 Mar 2003 13:31:44 EST
I have been researching for over ten years; and I've been to the Ft Wayne
Library (about an hour from where I live) I've been to Court Houses, Burial
Grounds, Regional Archives, I've rented microfilm from my local Family
History Center. I've purchased software and books and joined Societies.
Been there, done it. May I make a suggestion? Based upon several of my life
experiences?
The Ft Wayne Library is undergoing a major rebuilding. Many of us have been
helped by the holdings at the Library. I know what it is like to work in a
Library that is undergoing a remodeling/expansion project. And I know what
it is like to work as a Public Servant in times of War and Budget Cuts. And
I know what it is like to have a physical condition that makes bending or
stretching difficult and sometimes even painful. (Thankfully, I'm not yet at
the point where it is impossible.)
Suppose each of us on this list would send a small donation to the Allen
County Genealogical Society (the County where Ft Wayne is) (I do not live
in Allen County) and ask them to provide Volunteers at the Ft Wayne Library
on certain days that could be advertised in advance. We, who have benefited
so much from the work of others, could pay back a little to a local
Genealogical Society that has helped the Ft Wayne Library, and in turn our
small contribution would help others who would benefit from their time at the
Ft. Wayne Library.
