Subject: [ROOTS-L] 2nd Cousin once removed relationship

Roger,

This one left me scratching my head for a while too. The "removed" is how many generations apart the two individuals are.

For example: My cousin and my children have the same common ancestor. To my cousin, that ancestor is his grandmother. To my children, that common ancestor is their great grandmother. That makes these individuals first cousins once (one generation) removed.

There is a great chart on this that can be found at It's All Relative. www.iarelative.com .

Hope this helps.
