Hi! I surely laughed at your posting! (I am blond out of a bottle because I had to have an excuse!) As long as WE are blond, we can joke about it, right?

I think you have it wrong, but who's counting!

Your 1st cousin is your 1st cousin. (O.K. wasn't that easy! - Even IIII know that!)
Your 1st cousins kids are STILL your first cousins.they are just removed one generation. so they are once removed. 1st cousin once removed.

again, your 1st cousins kids = 1st cousin one generation removed (once removed)
Your 1st cousins grandkids = still your 1st cousin, but two generations removed. (twice removed)

Your mom's 1st cousin is not of your generation, so she is removed one generation so is called your 1st cousin once removed.

Pretty easy, huh!

Now, I can only explain 2nd cousins as they pertain to me. I used to call these people Shirttail Relatives because I didn't know what to call them! Anyway, I found a gal in Wis. Her gggrandfather is the same as mine. Her grandfather was my grandfather's brother, so her grandfather is NOT the same as mine. Her father obviously is NOT the same as mine.

Now counting back.
Nedra and me she is my 3rd cousin because we don't connect until 3 generations back!!
her dad Roger and my dad Darrow
her grandpa Wm and my grandpa Matt
her ggrandpa Heinr and my ggrandp George
and then the SAME gggrandparents!!! Melchior and Margreth!

If we counted back 2 generations before we had common relative, we'd be 2nd cousins! Really, unless you are into genealogy I don't think too many 2nd and 3rd cousins know each other. I met a 4th cousin when I first started! (Her gggrandmother was Margreth's sister!)

Good luck in reading this. I had checked my Legacy and put in the relationships for Roger, Darrow, Matt, Wm, etc and I thought, no! No blond could get it!!! (I just bought a new bottle today.good thing! cause I do not get that part!!) C.K.

Please, no anger over being blond.it is all in fun.

And by the way, thanks again, Steve for setting us straight on 1st cousin marriages! I didn't know they were still legal. You offered a good site, too. Thnx!
