Remission of the temporal punishment due to sins, after the guilt of sin has been remitted by sincere repentance; absolution from the censures and public penances of the church. It is a payment of the debt of justice to God by the application of the merits of Christ and his saints to the contrite soul through the church. Subject: [ROOTS-L] Memorial Card
I have a memorial card of an ancestor who was of the Catholic faith. At the
bottom of the card is this phrase : Merciful Jesus Grant Him Eternal Rest.
( 7 Years and 7 Quarantines ). I have no idea what "7 Years and 7
Quarantines" means ? And this is the first time I have ever come accross
these words on a memorial card. I am hoping someone out there may know the
meaning of this phrase ? Thank you in advance :)
