The Dirty Five

I grew up in the small town of Yukon, Canadian County, Oklahoma in the
1930.s to 1951, population than 800 to 1200 mostly Czech, German,
Scotch Irish people. Today Yukon is a City of over 25,000-multi ethnic
communities.

Some of the boys I ran around with were EARL ED NOVAK, JIM MCDANIELS,
MIKE PUGH, JIM WHEATLEY, and FENTON RAMEY, GARY JOHNSON. Some other
friends were JIMMY KAPUS, DONNIE MACLINN, HAROLD BRADY and WARREN
BOUTELLER.

The Girls we ran with, we named "THE DIRTY FIVE" because they
smoked. In the 1940's smoking was not considered "LADY LIKE!" If you
were women who smoked you never smoked while walking down the
street. The members of the dirty five club were: RUE DONNA JACOBSEN,
CARLENE CONE, SALLY PRIBYL, MARTHA MANN and ANN CLAYBOUGH."

CARLENE CONE'S father owned and operated the Pontiac Dealership in our
town. Carlene's 16 Th birthday present was a brand new jeep looking
vehicle. Boy did the "DIRTY FIVE" ever think they were hot jocking
around town in Carlenes jeep. We cruised by the CONE house and found
the garage open and parked inside was CARLENE'S Jeep. We stopped and
very quietly we approached the CONE family garage. The boys picked the
jeep up and turned it side ways in the garage and then we left. I
never did hear how that car got out. Out of that crowd we have two
that are no longer living SALLY PRIBYL and EARL EDWARD NOVAK. I shall
always miss them. Who will fill the two empty chairs in my heart?
