Whether it be Ancestry or Heritage Quest or AIS indexes or whatever
else, there will always be some errors and omissions. I have found families
that I never would have found if I had not gone through the microfilm for an
area page by page. When we are sure a family should be in a particular
area, that is exactly what we need to do -- go through the pages one by one.
Obviously people have been missed because census takers did not do
their job completely or some people wanted to remain hidden and probably a
myriad of other reasons. Add to that the misspellings of names and
deliberate providing of incorrect information, and we are probably lucky we
can find as much as we do. But for many of the missing, the indexing is
simply missing or inaccurate, so it may well pay off, not to rely completely
on indexing by others.
