May I chime in again, please. While it does not answer Joan's specific
problem, and I concur with Margaret, here's a hint and a service we can all
do.
For several years a nice lady in California sent me clippings (source
cited) of obits published in her paper that have Houston connections. I
then placed them on my copier and enlarged them - one per page - and took
them to Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research
http://www.hpl.lib.tx.us/clayton/ where they were placed in our Family
Vertical Files under the surname.
A help for local researchers who perhaps lost touch, and for others whose
last contact was in Houston.
I'm not good about doing it all the time, but I do watch for the lengthier
ones with genealogical data published in the Houston Chronicle and try to
forward them to some library that would/should have an interest.

A good deed for genealogical research that we can each do ....
