The offer was made earlier to let me know if there was any interest ...
perhaps it should just be posted here:

C. INSTITUTIONAL SOUNDEX, 1880 - 1920, may help you locate an orphanage or
school, college dormitories, hospitals and asylums, military installations -
even jails! - that have been mentioned in your family, or to locate what
institutions were in the area of your ancestral home. These are at the end
of the state soundex rolls.

>From my lecture outline "the bathtub count." There are a lot of special
censuses that most people do not use. The general, every-ten-year Federal
census is not all there is.

If anyone wishes the 4 pg outline - should help even without my remarks -
let me know **** by asking for it offline --- and I will be happy to send it
if you tell me your first name and where you're located (just town/state).
Send the request to and in the subject line
put "bathtub count."

Please follow the directions above ...

> Hi - Could someone tell us about the separate Federal census that has been
done and the years the information may be available. I am referring to
populations that might have been in prison, mental institutions, county
homes, orphanages, etc. Thanks. Karlyn
