Jan, wish you had told us where you live --- some of us could probably put
you in touch with some good society out there that would be happy to help
you get on the right trail. And also suggest a good library with
genealogical materials ... the Internet is fabulous, but not the only thing
you need. Nothing takes the place of that library, courthouse, etc...
Since you say you are new, may I direct you to just one place that might be
helpful to you. Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research --- yes,
it is here in Houston but the website is filled with help! Go to
http://www.houstonlibrary.org/clayton/ click on to "For Beginner
Researchers."
You did not give the family name you are searching or any dates but one
thing you might do is go to the RootsWeb Lists and see if there are others
working the same name. http://boards.rootsweb.com/ and enter your surname
or click on the appropropriate alphabet. Just browsing through the archives
might hit pay dirt for you, but by joining (free) you can put your query out
there and others will try to help.
Good luck!

how to post a tree to be filled in. I made one at

I have been told as a child we had family there. Since I am a Senior
Citizen those people are dead now.
