I think notes are a good idea. Several years ago, when visiting the grave of
our great grandmother, my sister left a small flower arangement with a note
attached with her name and address and that we would like to contact
relatives of our grandmothers. Sometime later, a realative that lived near
the cemetery did contact us. From that contact, we gained many detailed
personal stories about our family including one about our great grandfather
accidentaly riding into battle on 'Old Bullet' because his horse got excited
when he heard gunfire and charged, much like a gunshy dog. We also now have
a photo of this civil war grandfather received from some of the relatives we
met through this note. I think leaving things at the gravesite is fine.
Taking things from the gravesite is not so fine.
