I use (sic) to indicate that is how a name is spelled when it occurs differently than what is usual.

different spellings for the same people (as evidenced by ages & names
of children, and locations, all of which remain constant), should one
retain the obviously misspelled earlier names?
If you would prefer digest mode to mail mode, drop a note to <mailto:> and ask for the digest...
