Kristen - thank you for your input on this problem. Recently I have been
wrestling with how to deal with identifying locations in colonial times
because FTM suggests the current naming of a community when I know it wasn't
the same. Even later, I run into areas like "Indian Territory" for Oklahoma
before statehood and "Dakota Territory" before the states were formed. Are
there specific "genealogy rules" for these sort of changes. Another of my
questions have been, will folk in years to come recognize our description of
location if we use the naming of that time in history?
