Subject: [ROOTS-L] FamilyTreeMaker 2008

Recently my XP laptop failed and I purchased a Vista OS laptop...
FTM 2006 is essentially incompatible with the Vista OS and this
requires "upgrading" to FTM 2008.

I have been using FTM (FamilyTreeMaker) for many years and have always
subscribed to upgrades whenever they have been offerred.  These upgrades
have previously always been real improvements.  FTM 2008 is the first upgrade that is
a GREAT disappointment.

FTM 2008 is completely different from previous versions and many improvements
have been incorporated.  However, I have found that the charting program including
the addition of pictures to charts and the conversion to Acrobat (.pdf) format
is a giant step backwards.

In version FTM 2006 is was able to easily add pix to the ancestor and descendant charts and to move the pix and chart boxes anywhere on the charts...thus making very attractive custom pix-charts for all my relatives... I produced HUNDREDS of multi-pix pix-charts that were GREATLY appreciated by relatives and friends that I sent them too...

I am interested in finding out whether other FTM 2008 users have experienced
similar disappointments and how they have dealt with the shortcomings.  I sure hope
FTM adds back all the previous charting and Acrobat features ASAP.
