Rootsweb's tightened SPAM filters do seem to "snag" some messages -
both subscribe requests and message posts. If you're interested in a
certain list and seem to be unable to subscribe, contact the list
admin (i.e. - replace the word "listname"
with the correct one) and ask him/her to check you're subscription if
there is one, to "bcc" the admin on a subscribe/post request so the
headers can be checked and ultimately go to the HelpDesk if all else
fails. If you don't know if you're subscribed since you didn't get a
Welcome Message, simply post a message of introduction (make sure it's
a legitimate post - don't just post "test"). If you're not
subscribed, the list admin will see that message in his/her "pending
request" and will let you know. You can check the archives for your
message (in case your ISP snagged the message on the way back). If
it's in neither of those places, it went into the ether and you will
need help.
AVG Spam filter software seems to be a culprit recently as well as
making sure you're sending in "plain text" (sometimes the setting is
"buried" as in Outlook Express and hotmail). That's usually the
problem when messages vanish into the ether.
