According to Spencer Wells of the National Geographic Genographic
Project, based on DNA testing of living descendants of Thomas
Jefferson's paternal line:

"SNP testing revealed that Jefferson's Y is positive for M70, which
places him in haplogroup K2. K2 is rare in northern Europe but quite
common in the Middle East and northeast Africa, where it reaches
frequencies of 10% ..."

There is no way to know when Thomas Jefferson's ancestor arrived in
England, 10,000 years ago or three hundred years ago, but like the rest
of us, his ancestors came out of Africa, though probably a bit more
recently than most of our ancestor's did. Skin color exists for
protection from solar radiation, with the absence of skin coloration
being required for adequate vitamin D absorption. Like other physical
human characteristics, it is a biological thing, nothing else. Human
blood does not segregate based on skin coloration.

The current President elect likely holds the record for closest
ancestor from the African continent among those elected to the US
presidency, there is no way he has exclusive rights to claim such
ancestry since the whole human race can make the same claim. I would
think that his rank on this issue should be only of statistical
interest to political historians. He definitely has the claim to
darkest complexion among those elected to the US presidency, so he is
better adapted to climates with more sun shine and less adapted to
climates with little sun shine. Not much of an issue in our modern
technological world.
