Subject: [ROOTS-L] using a camera instead of a scanner

First I would like to thank the people who answered my original email. I
have tried several of their suggestions. Found that my digital camera could
capture documents etc. with fairly good results but as far as pictures they
came in second rate to pictures copied on a flat bed scanner. I find that
carrying a notebook or laptop computer in conjunction with a flat bed
scanner would not work in some cases. So think I will buy the "Pandigital"
at Best Buy. If I find out the pictures too big will try and get a copy on
my digital camera as this is better than no picture.. I have an HP
Photosmart C5180 All in One, here at the house but when I was deciding
to buy a Laptop, HP informed me that my scanner which I run with an XP
computer would not work with Vista. Great!.
So I wonder if I when I get the Pandigital will it work with Windows 7.
Guess only time will tell.
Maybe someone will come out with a flat bed scanner that will copy pictures
to cards or sticks. We can hope.

I have Ole Faithful Dell which I purchased in 2001/2002 and up dated. OS is
windows XP and I have NETWORKED Ole faithful (main) with Gateway of OS being
windowx XP, Gateway with OS of Vista, and now an ACER of OS Windows xp..
The 3 in 1 PCS works well with the computers in the network to and including Vista..
I can use in the PCS a choice of 4 or 5 memory cards, or working usually from
Ole Faithful I use a flash USB (Thumb drive) or a CD into a drive.. No problems.
I did use a flat bed scanner with Ole faithful but it finally went to scnner hev'n.
was considering purchasing a 'travel HP" but decided it was wee bit costly
even with rebates..
But I still want to know
HOW does one fully utilize a digital camera.. to capture text or graphics within
a well to not well lit area.. from a book, a page, or any media-----
"""""I photographed 1-1/2 rolls of microfilm one frame at a time using a tripod and the mechanical microfilm reader"""" per Jerry Hale
Jerry can you explain this a wee bit more! Please
Son is employed by RR.. and he has a Netbook .. it is small and easily hidden... and he uses
a air card for acquiring his ISP.. think it is Verizon.. but could be a Sprint air card. So he can
upload to his home computer from anywhere he can detect cell phone bars... same theory!
