we are the classic disfunctional family, with me being the
genealogist. I was looking for an email for the eldest of us kids
when I stumbled across her by Googling her. since then I have
reunited with my family and we keep in better touch than before. our
brother still refuses invites, and he won't call, but we can keep in
touch with him through another sibling.

we have an extreemly scarce family name, it tends to daughter out.
however every now and then we get a few boys so the name stays
viable. after reading one of the posts regarding FB, I went and
checked. we now have 44 people with our surname (everyone's descended
from one man who chose the surname in the Netherland's naming lottery)
on FB. it started out just with 4 adults and some of their kids less
than a year ago.

it can be difficult to find cousins with common names, but a rare
name, whether direct or collateral line, is worth searching for.

FB can be frustrating, but the easiest way to move around in it is
to click on the words in the blue bar. want to get back to the main
thread? just click on the words FaceBook and you're there. Home takes
you...I forget where, I don't use it any more as it doesn't fit my
needs. I avoid friends except for "all friends", I don't want FB
finding my friends for me. why? because they are like the recent
Bling ads, you get way more than you bargained for. "all friends"
just gets you all of your friends, which keeps it simple. simple is
great!

otherwise, it's pretty self explainatory, and pretty easy to use-the
only remaining mystery for new users is how to get back to the thread
once you've left it-that's cleared up by clicking of the word
"facebook" in the blue bar. until recently it was complicated,
glitchy and crammed full of annoying game announcements. I and many
others found out how to contact them and gave them a piece of our
minds, and they cleaned everything up...except there's a new set of
glitches, at least, there is for me, anyway, but they are just minor
ones, may be an issue with Vista.

finally, I never thought I'd use FB. as we get older, new systems
are more difficult to understand. think we get too much data
overload. but when I found a sister, I decided I'd take a chance, and
I'm glad I did. we are involved in Geni, with a few people filling in
the recent information and I, once the new year starts, will clean up
any messes made this past year and add the rest of the ancestral tree
to it. I'm so glad FB has helped reunite the family and made Geni
accessable to them, now they're more interested in the genealogy than
before.
