Subject: [ROOTS-L] A Civil War Soldier Burial

I have a family member, Nathaniel Peter Talmate Gridley who was a union soldier. He was assigned to Company A, 18th Regiment New York Infantry, and killed in battle 27 Jun 1862 at the battle of Gaines Mill near Chickahoming River, VA. A letter I have from another union soldier writes of others killed that day, and they were buried in a "soldiers grave." Nathaniel may also have been buried in a soldiers grave, but I don't know that. I have the publication Martha & William Reamy, Roll of Honor which identifies the burial location of union soldiers. He is not listed. Since this publication is considered one of the better to locate national cemetery burial locations, I don't know where else to research. Can anyone tell me what the process may be to retrieve a soldier from a battle field soldiers grave and place the remains in a national cemetery? Does anyone have a suggestion where I might find his burial location? Thank you anyone and everyone for your assistance. My email address . Tom W. Sisson
