Below is the obituary for my cousin and mentor Charlene Graham, an avid
genealogist out of North Platte, Lincoln Co., Nebraska. Anyone who ever
had a local lookup done there, especially for Civil War soldiers, likely
benefitted from her volunteer efforts. She will be sorely missed.

--

Charlene "Chod" M. Rowley, 77, of North Platte, passed away Sept. 5,
2010, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 25,
1932, to Clyde and Gladys (Nation) Graham at North Platte. She was
united in marriage June 3, 1950, to Thomas "Tom" H. Rowley at the First
Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte.

Charlene enjoyed her research and genealogy. In recent years she has
spent numerous hours researching historical characters for the cemetery
tours. She was partial to her latest project on Civil War figures.
Charlene enjoyed her many friends and neighbors who have been there for
her over the years.

She is survived by a son, Donald (Marcia) Rowley of Adams; two
daughters, Cathryn (Lynn) Nichols of Mullen, and Lynda (Terry) Smith of
Hershey; 10 grandchildren, Tait (Kerenza) Rowley, Tomina (Ross)
Brainard, Talan (Candi) Rowley, Ty (Michelle) Rowley, Jason (Angel)
Nichols, Jeff (Amy) Nichols, Brooks (Jennifer) Smith, Pat Smith, Jacey
Smith and Kelby Smith; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty
Kuebelbeck; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Johnson, of North Platte,
and Willamay Graham, of California.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thomas "Tom"
Rowley; a son, Thomas "Tuffy" Rowley Jr.; a sister, Harriet Gibson; and
two brothers, Robert Johnson and Richard Graham.

Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Library, for the purpose of
purchasing a micro film; The North Platte Cemetery for a registry to
find graves or to the donor's choice. Online condolences may be shared
at www.carpentermemorial.com.

Cremation was chosen. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, at Carpenter Memorial
Chapel. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at
Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
