Sharon.

Hi, Hope all is with you and everyone else that reads this.  I can not
comment on Family Tree Maker.  I use PAF which the software that I use from the
Morman Church.  I don't go there but I used to use there database and I found
that I like the PAF progam that they use.  The last time I went in I found that
the data that I had submitted into the system could be manually changed in the
system so a lot of the information had been changed and was incorrect.   So I
will not use the computer data.  But I have decided that I will go and use the
Census data which would be ok, they can not manually change that.  But as I said
I love the program that they had to put the Family history info into .

Take care everyone.
Sandy

Subject: Re: [ROOTS-L] FTM 2011

<<Has any of you folk used the Family Tree 2011 version? What  do you think
of it?>>

Hi Jet, I just installed FTM 2011 a few days ago, and I think I'll
eventually like it, but right now it's pretty overwhelming.  It's got a lot  of
capability, but a lot of stuff I won't use.  A couple  issues:

a.  I've been using FTM 2005 so there's a HUGE difference, and  I've got a
big learning curve.

b.  At present, 2011 is slow, and shuts down when I press  certain buttons,
so it's not workable for me yet.  I think the problem  is I'm operating
with an 8-year old computer, Windows XP, and a data base of 20K  individuals.
I think the combination is too much.  I've already  ordered a new hard drive
with Windows 7, so think once I get that I'll be OK,  and I'm not in panic
mode yet.  In fact, the reason I installed 2011 was  because I was planning
on getting Windows 7.

c.  Since I have been working with an old FTM program, which I was  quite
happy with, I've just recently learned that the FTM 2011 (and evidently a
few more recent versions) no longer support the FTM/Family Archive CDs --
Ancestry feels that since they now own FTM that they've put all that info on
their website (at extra cost of course) so you don't need the CDs.  I've
learned there's a free download you can get to enable reading those
(_http://www.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html_ (http://www.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html)
),

but I haven't yet downloaded it, so can't confirm it works.  If you have  CDs
created by Ancestry, those are no longer supported, and there is no  fix.
Apparently the same is true for the LDS CDs.

Hope this helps.  Sharon
