I looked for 10 years for my husband's family that came from Germany in the
ships records, theirs was 1850. No name in there like ours.



Well I decided if it took a month to go thru the whole book of Germans to
American, I was going to find that family. I wrote out all the names and
ages of them. First I started with the same Initial of the last name which
was P, I only had to go down about 5 names and found them. The name was
spelled totally different, but the first names and ages were exact. I
wonder if many of the immigrants used the first initial of the last name,
and changed their name when they arrived here?
