I found one census where the HOH is a widow with 4 children. I know she was
quite "well off" and her occupation is listed as washerwoman.
NOW, I was a divorced woman with 5 children and I, too, was quite "well off".
HOWEVER, I did often think my occupation was washerwoman or cleaning lady, or
baby sitter.
Maybe this lady wanted to point out that she was as much the HOH as her "no good
lazy husband" :-) There's a personal side to the census reports t

On the census it lists
John Roberts, head
Mary Roberts, head, wife
?
They are in the same house.
I have never ran into this before. Does anyone have any idea why both husband
and wife would be listed as Head?
