Hello Jerry, Kevin,
You are right, of course, about the unchanged B possibly overwriting the
changed A. In fact, this has happened to me when using FO on the laptop
for reference while working on the desktop. It's easier to have two full
size screens to look at than one split screen and I don't have to toggle
back and forth on just the desktop.
With the same database open on both, I may use the laptop to look at
"Information", "Pack Data" or go into "Edit Individual" without editing
anything. After I finish the session on the desktop, I exit the program.
Then I exit on the laptop. Now, some of the files on the laptop may be
newer than the desktop. As you say, if I synchronize, I may undo the
changes I made on the desktop.
When I go to synchronize from desktop to laptop, LapLink will tell me if
I have source files older than target files. I can then identify the
files, disable the "Copy Newer File Only" option and force the laptop
files to match the desktop files.
I have several other high tech <g> solutions to this problem. One is to
exit FO on the laptop first. Another is to set the date on the laptop
back a year. The third is to not use the laptop at all while editing
on the desktop. Then, when you are through, just copy the newer files
over from the desktop to the hard disk on the laptop.
