Subject: [RMagic] Addresses and gedcom

I just did some trials to see what happened to Addresses on gedcom export.
Properties counts the number of addresses in the Address list at Lists>Address List not the number that are actually linked to people. If you have a Primary and Secondary address for one person, both addresses will be shown on the Address List and counted.
If you clear an address in a person's record, the Properties number doesn't change. Clearing the address just unlinks it from the address in the Address List.
You can link an address to more than one person so the address is not deleted completely from the Address list.
The number changes only if you also delete the address at Lists>Address List.
If you delete an address at Lists>Address List, it deletes the address in all persons record.
If you make a change to an address either in the Address list or the individual's record, the change is reflected in both places.
When you export a gedcom, the addresses that are not linked to a person are removed from the Lists>Address List just as unused places are.
This explains why my count was 60 in the old database and 58 in the new database. I had cleared the addresses in the individual's record, but had not deleted the address in the Address List.
So if you have addresses in the Address List that aren't linked and you want to keep them, they need to be linked to a person before gedcom.
The report at Reports>Lists>Address Lists show only those addresses that are linked to individuals. Therefore, you can compare this report with the Address list before a gedcom and link any unlinked addresses you don't want to lose.
