I have done transcription for the Genweb and Rootsweb county sites... cemetery mostly... but we all have to start somewhere! You'd be surprised how many people are buried in what seems like a small cemetery!

I'll second this - I've done it and it's incredibly easy to get started and
to accomplish the transcribing.

I have another suggestion for those who wish to help keep genealogical
content free:
Volunteer for the LDS "FamilySearch Indexing Project".

They provide the software, instructions and images needing indexed. If you
do genealogy, you're probably familiar with many of the records they're
indexing. Currently, I'm doing a page from the 1870 U.S. Census for Essex
County, Massachusetts. One census sheet takes me about 30 minutes. I've
also down 1880's Irish birth records (400 per image), which take
considerably longer than 30 minutes.
