I've been subscribing to this newsletter for some time now, but this is my
first post.
I get very confused by all the instructions on how to restore an RM backup,
because as far as I can see it is so simple - in fact I have just tried it
before posting this message.
All my RM backups are .zip files, which must be the standard, because I'm
not creating backups in any other way. I just tried this:
1. Locate a backup (.zip file).
2 Assuming you have either Windows XP or Vista installed (other OS's will
open .zip files but the process might be slightly different) right click the
.zip file and choose the 'Extract All' option from the drop down menu which
appears.
3. I suggest extracting the files to a new folder, away from your main RM
data store. Click 'Extract' and the backed-up files will be restored almost
instantly to the new folder.
4. Open RM, and close any databases which might open, then select 'File -
New'. Browse to the folder you restored the backed-up files to, and the name
of your database will appear (e.g. Bloggs.rmg). Open this and your backed up
database will appear exactly as it was when backed up.
Hopefully others will find this works, if not I would be interested to know
what does happen.
On a different but related topic, the easiest way I have found of
transferring my RM files from one computer to another is to create a back-up
file, copy the resulting .zip file to the other computer by any suitable
means, and 'restore' it following the steps above.
