I agree that this thread needs to be put to rest, especially since many
messages are from people stating the same thing others have said and making
it clear that they didn't read my original message. In fact, I decided
yesterday I wasn't going to reply to any more messages. However, I do want
to clarify a couple of things.
The reason I'm going back to RM3 is not because of the sort date issue. It's
because of a number of issues that Bruce may fix with time. The main issue
for me is the amount of extra time required for data input, mainly because
of all the dialogs you have to go through to enter sources, notes, etc. Also
I don't need all the bells and whistles that have been added to RM4. AND I
don't want to have to make changes to data entered in RM3 because of the
changes in RM4.
In the past I've waited a few months before upgrading to a new version (or
moving from FO to RM) until glitches and bugs have been worked out. This
time, though, I upgraded about a week after RM4 was released. Because I knew
Bruce had worked on it for a year and because of the economy being
depressed, which might cause people to be reluctant to switch to RM from
other programs or upgrade from a previous version of RM, I wanted to support
his work. I also knew RM4 had already had a lot of beta testing, which I
thought would have worked out most of the kinks. That was my mistake. Maybe
I'll go back to RM4 in the future, but right now I prefer to spend my time
doing research and entering data quickly.
One of the great things about Rootsmagic is that it can be used in different
ways by different people. It's easy to use and has a lot of advanced
features for those who want them. And Bruce has always been good about
listening to people's requests for new features.

P.S. I just noticed one thing: In RM4 when I only have a year or a year and
month of death for both death and burial (which always sorted correctly in
RM3), the Burial fact sorts correctly after the Death fact if I have a
different place of burial from place of death. This is usually when I have a
dash and then a cemetery name in the Burial place field. I only add the
cemetery name in this way for about 10 cemeteries where a lot of my family
are buried. And, yes, I know about the new Place Details field, but I have
my reasons for not using it--not the least of which is I would have to make
a lot of changes to my
current database.
