I also like one place for all my notes & sources (entered by date) so I have
a timeline to scroll through and where I can write myself notes. Maybe what
I do will work for you.

I use the person note area for my "work area" and privatize it all.
Anything enclosed in curly brackets { } is private and won't print or
export. (When you print reports there is an option to strip curly brackets
if you wish) After I type something in my private work area, I may copy and
paste it into the note for the appropriate fact without curly brackets if I
want it to print. You can use curly brackets in any fact note. There's
probably a space limit for notes. Maybe someone else knows what it is.
