Have any of you given FTM 2012 a significant trial so that you might
compare it with RM5?

I have used FTM2012 for online research. It saves a lot of manual
copying. RM5 (previously RM4) has been my master desktop program. From
RM5 I have created GEDCOMs with which to update my TNG tree at
mfseeker.com/Gen. Online research with FTM2012 is a delight (even when
using online sources other than ancestry). This is especially appealing
now that there is online syncing between AFT trees at ancestry.com and
FTM trees on my desktop. However, creating GEDCOMs in FTM, importing
them into RM5, and then resolving the inevitable merge issues (even when
using drag and drop) is a bit of a pain.

I am considering switching to FTM as my master desktop application, but
I love FM5. Does anyone have a sense of what I might miss if I took this
drastic step?
