I have used FTM on and off for years, including FTM 2012. Yes, FTM works better with Ancestry.com than some applications, but I have found FTM, including 2012, bloated, buggy, and slow and it does not work well with the data of other applications. RM is my preferred genealogy application. I do use FTM, Legacy, and Ancestral Quest (all current versions occasionally, but nothing beats RM in my opinion.

Have any of you given FTM 2012 a significant trial so that you might
ompare it with RM5?
I have used FTM2012 for online research. It saves a lot of manual
opying. RM5 (previously RM4) has been my master desktop program. From
M5 I have created GEDCOMs with which to update my TNG tree at
fseeker.com/Gen. Online research with FTM2012 is a delight (even when
sing online sources other than ancestry). This is especially appealing
ow that there is online syncing between AFT trees at ancestry.com and
TM trees on my desktop. However, creating GEDCOMs in FTM, importing
hem into RM5, and then resolving the inevitable merge issues (even when
sing drag and drop) is a bit of a pain.
I am considering switching to FTM as my master desktop application, but
love FM5. Does anyone have a sense of what I might miss if I took this
rastic step?
