Alfred, it turns out I have registration key for the on-line version I
downloaded. Several days later when the cd was received it has a different
registration key. I'm not very savvy (computer illiterate) when it comes to
"fixing" software issues. Are you saying I should insert the cd and "run"
it, using the key # that appears on the cd cover? Is there something else I
should be doing?
Thanks for your help. I feel like a lost puppy dog in a driving rain storm.
Ruth

You do not have to download again, just adding the registration key will
change Essentials to the full version.
Taking away the registration XML file will change the full version to the
Essentials version.
I don't know how the XML file which holds your registration code would get
wiped out.
On my Vista machine, it is located in C:\ProgramData\RootsMagic\version
4\RootsMagicapp.xml
I don't know about the color coding It works in Essentials just as it does
in the full version.
I would suspect that you may have opened a perevious version of your
database or restored an earlier backup file.
Check the RootsMagic Window menu to see if you have more than one database
loaded.
Check the File - Open Recent, to see if you may have another file that you
have been working on.
