Good morning,
The vital records index that I have is on CD, not on the website. Try going
to the LDS site, choosing library, then family history library catalog, and
then do a place search. I just put in Ireland the first time I did it, and
it will list all the films that have to do with Ireland.
Here are the John Frains with father John that I found on the CD's:

As far as the place goes, I really have no idea and know nothing about old
townlands. However, none of the John Frains I found were born in Clare but
there are some in Mayo which borders Roscommon. Strokestown and Tulsk are
both in the Diocese of Elphin, perhaps you could write to the diocese and
ask them about the towns?
