Mark has made good reply I see, noting the male- macho tendency to down-
grade the females.

Another possible reason is that the bairns were found on someone's
doorstep. One of the parents unable, or unwilling to be identified.

> hi folks, since the list has been a little slow recently, can I ask is there anyone else who has been researching MacDonalds in the Parish of Cromarty. I have 3, 4 and 5x great grandparents there I am trying to pursue.

I have one only, of early date: Christina MacDonald married John Cameron
in parish Contin, 1799. They were in Strathgarve, an estate since
cleared to make a forest. They soon moved to parish Urray, built a croft
at Ardnagrask by Muir of Ord, and my cousins live in the croft <now>.

Cheers..................
