As far as I know, the lists of land grants of North Carolina which were
made
in Tennessee have not appeared on the internet. If they have, please
advise--I am always eager to learn, well, most things genealogical!!!
=========
If you go to:
http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/Archives/records.htm<http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/Archives/records.htm>
click on "Mars Catalog"
check the "NC State Archives" box
enter a name under "free text"
If they had a land grant in TN, it should show up under "Land Grants A"
As an example, use the name "Francis Baker" [without the quotes]
You will see File 952 (Warrant No. 2439) in Washington Co., TN
If you go to the FHL catalog at:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp<http://wwwfamilysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp>
Do a place search on North Carolina, then click on "land and property" then
click on
"Land records, North Carolina and Tennessee; indexes, 1693-1959, 1600-1957"
Click on "view film notes"
jump to film notes starting from #700, which will have all the TN records.
File 952 in Washington Co., TN would be on FHL microfilm 1,928,916.
The file will list the number of acres, Grant #, issue date, entry # and
date, and Book and page # where the grant is recorded. The file will also
include the warrant issued to the surveyor, giving the order to survey the
land, along with the rough description given in the land entry. There will
also be the survey with the metes and bounds description, as well as listing
the chain carriers for the survey, who were often neighbors or relatives.
