Marshall and Betty,

My family, the La Forces, came down from the western end of the Shenandoah
Valley (Botetourt Co near the top of the mountain range) through the
Cumberland Gap and on to Martin Station. According to a book on the life
and travels of Daniel Boone, they met up with his group from North Carolina
in the spring of 1780--at Moccasin Gap, VA and all traveled through the
Cumberland Gap into Ky.
There are other people who have given accounts that agree with this.

My Mahan family also came out of Botetourt County down the "Wilderness Road"
through the Cumberland Gap. Some of the men came first to Ruddle's and
Martin's stations the spring or summer of 1779. They went back and to Botetourt
County Virginia and started back in the fall of 1779 to Kentucky with the rest
of the family. They arrived back at the stations about Christmas 1779 or
January 1, 1780. I believe that Agnes Laforce and her children were with the
Mahans. These two families were very close. John Mahan, eldest son of Patrick
Mahan had married Agnes LaForce's daughter Agnes in Botetourt County Virginia. I
personally do not believe that any of this group met Daniel Boone. Which part
of the LaForce family is supposed to have met Danile Boone
