Yes Barbara, whilst it seems probable that such a connection
exists somewhere, it hasn't so far been possible to prove things
to everyone's satisfaction, and for that reason I make no claim
beyond stating that the descendants of Walter RUNCIMAN 1810-78
are known definitvely, whereas his ancestry raises some questions.

Sir Steven Runciman's 1974 notes on the family's history (made
without reference to BMD records) which Ros Runciman has recently
posted to this list don't entirely match known birth/baptism records
or the research by Ann Garven commissioned by Mary Runciman and
circulated by Alethea Watson. But perhaps some may wish to stretch
a point or two and say that things do match up within reasonable
expectations

It can be said that our problems derive from the reluctance of
some of our ancestors to take their bairns to the kirk for baptism.

Sir/Lord Walter RUNCIMAN (1847-1937) was my great-grand-uncle.

Regards, Steven Gibbs.
