Martha Beisel, 86, of St. Louis died Monday, May 31, at Delmar Gardens
South, St. Louis.


She was born Jan. 17, 1918, in Denver to Reinhart F. and Katherine Beisel,
who were both born in Dreispitz, Russia. She grew up on the family farm in
Brighton and graduated from Fort Lupton High School. She earned a Bonfils
scholarship and graduated from Colorado State College of Education, now the
University of Northern Colorado, in 1941. While attending college, she also
worked at Angell's Tea Room, where she befriended noted author James
Michener. She also received a master's degree from CSCE in 1949.


Mrs. Beisel met her husband, David W. "Bill" Beisel Sr., through his uncle,
Reinhart "Reiny" Beisel of Oklahoma City, while Bill was in the Army Air
Corps during World War II. Martha and Bill married in Denver on Aug. 9,
1945.


A lifelong teacher, Mrs. Beisel taught in Aguilar, at Fort Lupton High, and
in Greeley. The family relocated to St. Louis, Mr. Beisel's hometown, where
she continued being a full-time teacher until retirement. She then became a
substitute teacher.


Mrs. Beisel was a proud American and loved animals, especially her dogs,
cats and horses.


Survivors are her children, David W. Beisel Jr. and wife Cathy of Fenton,
Mo., and D. Ann Douglas and husband Michael of Imperial, Mo.; her
grandchildren, Andrew and Eric Beisel and Ashley and Michael Douglas; her
sister, Mollie Wolfe of Brighton; and special friends, Dolores Anthony and
Beverly Morlok Finger.


Her husband, parents, two sisters, Lydia Beisel and Lillian Toth Cavender,
and a brother, Alexander Beisel, are deceased.


Memorial services were Wednesday, June 9, at Grace Episcopal Church,
Kirkwood, Mo.


St. Louis Cremation Service was in charge of cremation.
