More available? Schilling has more available than, I think, any other
village in the Volga.

Birth & Christening books: 1764-1841, 1842-1878

Register of the Lutheran congregation: 1865 - 1931

Family list (similar to census): 1883

Census (Revision lists): 1835, 1850, 1857

Many daughter colonies founded in the 1857 to 1862 time period have no
census that has been found, and maybe a couple of years of birth records
(1901-1902). For some, there are 1857 census, in Russian (found recently at
the LDS Library in Salt Lake City), that are going to take a long time to
translate. Note that NONE of the birth records available at either the
Engels or Volgograd archives were filmed by the Mormons, and it is very
unlikely that they ever will be.

Look at the list of records of villages at the Volgograd archives:
http://dobrinka.org/archives/Volgograd_archives_revised.pdf

For example daughter colonies of Dobrinka and Galka which were Neu Galka,
Neu-Weimar, and several others. For the daughter colonies or Schilling, the
only one that we know has birth records for is Alexandertal (1901-1902).
For many, that's 50 years of no records !!!!

And I'll preach one more time about people from Schilling. If your
relatives said they were from Schilling (Alt-Schilling), don't bet on it. A
very high percentage were actually from Alexandertal (Neu-Schilling),
Konstantinovka, Schilling (adjacent to Konstantinovka) and the two
Neu-Schillings southwest of Krazny-Kut.

Another example of people saying they were from an original village, and
actually were from a daughter colony is Galka. In 1857, Neu-Galka was
founded, and almost 30% of the village moved to Neu-Galka. People continued
to say they were from Galka.

The surnames that I am interested are not among those in Alexandertal,
although I do connect to Schreiber and Strackbein that were in Schilling. I
would guess these are collateral to those. I wish there was more available
for Schilling. I appreciate it if you would keep me posted of any interest
in the Schilling records. Thanks again.
