It's time to update the information on my (one) Russell. I achieved
another generation back - finally discovered the names of Lizzie Plumer
Swett and Charles I.G. Hutchins' parents. Of course as we all know that
just quadruples the mystery! I am seeking information on John HUTCHINS,
Martha A. RUSSELL, Luzerne JONES, and Robert SWETT per below narration.
If you have any information please email me!
First Generation
1.John HUTCHINS.
John married Martha A. RUSSELL.
They had the following (known) child:
+2Mi.Charles Ilsley Goodwin HUTCHINS was born on 8/9 Feb 1852
and died on 20 Nov 1943.
Second Generation

Per the 1889-1991 Portland, Maine Directories, Charles I.G. Hutchins
worked as a foreman baker. Two addresses are provided in that directory,
30 Pearl, Portland and 162 Franklin, Portland.
In a 1943 newspaper clipping from the Portland Press Herald, Portland,
Maine: "Mr. Hutchins, born at Kennebunk, son of John and Martha RUSSELL
Hutchins, spent his youth in that town and Biddeford. Coming to Portland
as a young man, he learned the baking trade which he followed for many
years, working for concerns of W. C. Cobb, Goudy and Kent, and F.N.
Calderwood. From 1902 to 1912 he was a baker and chef at the Portlnad
City Home. Soon after entrance of this country in World War One, he
entered the Kittery Navy Yard where he worked in the electrical ship
until his retirement in 1932. Always fond of horses and the set, he
tells many interesting storeies of his youth when he drove stage coaches
and hacks. In his spare time he enjoyed trips along the Maine coast in
tugboats with his old friend, Captain Oliver. He is a past noble grand
of the Ancient Brothers Lodge of IOOF, past chief patriarch of the
Encampment and a member of the Grand Lodges of Maine."

Charles married Lizzie Plummer SWETT, daughter of Robert Swett and
Larserne/Luzerne Jones, on 1 Mar 1879 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine.
Lizzie was born on 20 Oct 1860 in Canton, ME. She died on 24 Mar 1953 in
Portland, ME and was buried on 25 Mar 1953 in Pine Grove, Falmouth, ME.
"Mrs. Hutchins before her marriage was Lizzie Plummer Swett of Canton,
daughter of Robert and Luzerne JONES Swett. Graduating from the schools
of that town, she came to Portland to work at the age of 17. Here she met
Mr. Hutchins and they were married March 1, 1879, by the Rev. Mr. Day,
then pastor of the Chestnut Street Methodist Church. ... Mrs. Hutchins is
an expert needlewoman and has made many beautiful quilts and done much
knitting."
- Per the Portland Press Herald, March 2, 1943 on the occassion of her
64th wedding anniversary.
Charles and Lizzie had the following children:
+3Fi.Mary Edith Hutchins was born on 6 Jun 1883 and died in Mar

Per Lizzie's social security number application: Lizzie was working at
Montgomery Ward's in Portland, Maine in November of 1936 and was residing
at 52 Carleton St., Portland, Maine.
Luzerne married Philip G. KILDAY on 23 May 1927 in Portland, Cumberland
Cty, ME.
+7Fv.Dorothy W. Hutchins.
8Mvi.Eldon? Hutchins was born27 in 1912. Was buried in 1934 in
Pine Grove, Falmouth, ME.
Eldon's burial plot is located with two of Charles' and Lizzie Hutchins'
children. I am not sure at this time if he is the unnamed sixth child
mentioned in the Portland Press Herald article referencing Charles' and
Lizzie's 64th wedding anniversary. If he were a child, Lizzie would have
been abt 52 y.o. when she bore him. I find that unlikely. He may be a
grandchild - perhaps a son of Ilsley and Ada since he is alongside them.
His plot was purchased by Lizzie originally. Hopefully there is a stone
inscription that signals his relation. I won't know until I get to Pine
Grove for a visit, hopefully last week of June. - Notation dated June
6, 2000
Thanks in advance!
